NWAAS Christmas Party

Postby pinkrblu on Sat Nov 10, 2007 11:13 pm

Instead of our regular meeting in December, we will be having a Christmas Party Saturday, December 8th at 7:00 pm. Saltwater Depot has very graciously invited us to use their backroom.
A gift exchange was discussed, and I think we decided on White Elephant--fish related, of course.
We will also be having pot-luck. At this point, I believe Kevin will bring chili.
Please post here what you would like to bring, questions or suggestions.

Thanks!
~Kenna

Yes, well, Kevin isn't very good at remembering his calendar. I have to attend a family wedding in St. Louis that day. I will miss our first Christmas Party

I don't think this date was set in stone, but December does fill up pretty quickly.

Did Kevin get a deer?

I'm not sure on the dates and times yet, but it looks like I may be flying from somewhere in southern CA to KC on the 30th.

Christmas Party

Postby dennysfishroom on Mon Nov 12, 2007 10:42 am

Personally, it would work better for me if the Christmas was on another day (we were going to have to come late because we have another Christmas dinner that night). Having said that, I've found that unless you're lucky to find a date that just happens to be good for everyone, once you try to change dates, you just find other people who can't come for the adjusted date. It's hard when you can't do it face to face, too. It takes forever to keep exchanging emails. Just about anything will work for us, so if you want to try, we'll more than likely be there. Should I hold off a few days before cancelling the room at the Rogers Police Department? Denny

What is a White Elephant gift exchange? I looked it up on the internet and it says its basically a junk present you don't want lying around so you give it as a present?
That sounds really crappy so please tell me its not the same thing, plus, around here, if its not needed, it not here. (Yes, very anal retentive about my house)

We always do an ornament sexchange game at our partys and its a hoot!!

I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Jenn for taking this boring thread and turning it into one of the most entertaining threads I've read in a long time. :D

My husband said he didn't remember that party but it could've been interesting. LOL

So after my big oopsy can anyone tell me what a White Elephant is? The one we've always played was an ornament EXchange where each person can steal the person's gift before then or draw from the pile and so on, its a hoot because you get something you like only to have it stolen.

And I don't think the ornaments change sexes!!

You're perception of white elephant is partially, though not entirely correct. Each person will bring something fish related that they already own, but it should not just be junk. Say for instance I have a book that I no longer use, but could be of great interest to someone els, or Sundance switches to a central filtration system and no longer needs his canister filter (generous guy, huh!) that kind of stuff.
